car and caravan insurance

I am new to caravanning and am looking for insurances. I've just been told that my car will only be insured third party while I am towing the caravan and wondered if this was the case with all insurance companies. What are other peoples experiences?

Usually it is your caravan that is only insured third party (by the car insurance) while you are towing it. That's why you have caravan insurance to cover accidental damage etc to the caravan.

I would double check as I can't understand why you would be told that your car would only be insured third party, perhaps the person telling you had a slip of the tongue.
